This cooler functions relatively well,

"This cooler functions relatively well, but the interior rubber seal is incomplete (apparently on purpose). We discovered this on a trip when my son got the cooler out of the back of the car and it tipped backwards (a little less than 90°). He complained about it leaking on him. I checked the drain valve and it was completely dry. It turns out that the interior rubber seal is intentionally incomplete with a gap left so interior and exterior pressure can equalize and not cause the lid to pressure lock. Unfortunately, this gap allows water (or air) to move back and forth which compromises the cooler's insulating property. I called and explained the problem to a customer service representative and was told that this was done on purpose to avoid pressure locking the lid. I have an Orca cooler that suffers from pressure locking when you change elevation with the cooler sealed, but all you have to do is unscrew the drain cap, allow the pressure to equalize, and re-secure the cap before water starts to flow out and the lid opens with no problem. I wish that Pelican had a complete seal on this cooler and a piece of literature explaining the process of unlocking the cooler with the drain valve instead of compromising the performance on its product. Pelican stresses its mil-spec high performance, but then intentionally builds a cooler with a design flaw that decreases its performance. One of these days I may be forced to break down and buy a Yeti. Ugh."

"I already own the Lime Green color 30QT Elite and loved this Patriotic version even more!! If you precool the cooler the night before, a fresh batch of ice before your trip lasts incredibly long! The 30QT size is perfect for storing in so many locations without being too large but definitely big enough to hold enough ice to last a few days."

"I have a few different brands of these Pelican like coolers, the big name brands, some you can only get online, etc. So far this is my favorite one. Latches work great and never get in the way like others when you try to close the lid. Drain plug has nice metal cable on it so it wont break off and get lost. Keeps ice for days."
